Rampage Earn Third Straight Home Win

By: San Antonio Rampage Media Relations
11/03/2012 2:48 AM -

SAN ANTONIO (November 2, 2012) – Rampage forward Eric Selleck scored the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining in regulation to help propel San Antonio to its third-straight home win with a 3-2 victory over Grand Rapids on Friday night at AT&T Center in front of 7,976 fans.

Forward Jon Rheault recorded two goals on the night and netminder Jacob Markstrom made 24 saves to help the Rampage (3-4-0-1) erase a 2-0 deficit and kick off the four-game homestand with a victory. Selleck and Rheault’s tallies were their firsts of the season.

Grand Rapids (2-4-1-1) struck first at 6:20 of the opening frame with an extra attacker on a delayed penalty. Markstrom made the initial save, but the rebound went right to Brent Raedeke, who fired the puck into the top shelf of the goal.

The Griffins took a two-goal lead at 9:38 of the first period when Trevor Parkes walked into the slot and took a wrist shot that beat Markstrom high.

But the Rampage went on to record three unanswered goals en route to the victory.

Rheault tallied his first goal of the season at with four minutes remaining in the first period. Defenseman Tyson Strachan passed the puck down low to rookie forward Drew Shore, who spotted Rheault open in the high slot for the one-timer that found the back of the net.

Rheault struck again at 4:35 of the second period, recording the Rampage’s first shorthanded goal of the season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound forward intercepted a pass at the blueline and made a nifty move before tucking the puck under Griffins netminder Tom McCollum to tie the game at 2-2.

Rookie forward Jared Gomes found himself all alone with the puck in front of the Griffins’ goal with four minutes remaining in the middle frame. Gomes deked to his backhand, but was unable to elevate the puck over McCollum.

Selleck tallied the game winner at 16:48 of the third period on a sharp angle shot that beat McCollum shortside. In his first game of the season after dealing with an injury that kept him sidelined for the first seven games of the year, defenseman Michael Caruso earned an assist on the game winner. Scott Timmins also collected a helper on the goal.

The Rampage power play we held to 0-for-4 on the night, while Grand Rapids went 0-for-3 with the man advantage. Of San Antonio’s eight games this season, six have been decided by one goal with the Rampage owning a 3-2-0-1 record in such affairs.

The Rampage will look to keep the home winning streak alive on Sunday, as San Antonio will square off against Oklahoma City at 4:30 p.m. at AT&T Center. Individual, and season, tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com
