Rampage Join the Fight Against Cancer

By: San Antonio Rampage Media Relations
11/05/2013 8:43 AM -

SAN ANTONIO (November 5, 2013) – The San Antonio Rampage announced today several initiatives to help in the fight against cancer. The team will host their fifth annual Face-Off Against Kids Cancer Night, presented by the Little Fighter Foundation, on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. when the team squares off against the Oklahoma City Barons at the AT&T Center.

The team will wear specially designed jerseys featuring the Face-Off Against Kids Cancer logo. The jerseys will be auctioned off immediately following the game with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Little Fighter Foundation and the Face-Off Against Kids Cancer program. The Rampage have raised nearly $50,000 to benefit Face-Off Against Kids Cancer since its inception in 2009.

The Face-Off Against Kids Cancer program pairs Rampage hockey players with children from the Centers for Oncology and Blood Disorders at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in either early stages of treatment for pediatric cancer or in remission. Throughout the season, the Rampage will host a series of social events in hopes of forging lasting relationships and raising awareness for children’s cancer in the community. Past activities have included trips to Sea World, the San Antonio Rodeo and Funtastic Playland.

The Rampage players met their buddies on Oct. 23 during a pizza and board game party at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. The buddies and their families will be in attendance on Saturday night to take in the Rampage game at the AT&T Center. The Little Fighter Foundation is also encouraging fans to shave their heads at 6:00 p.m. prior to the game to help raise awareness for children’s cancer. Fans who participate will be eligible to receive a free ticket to Saturday’s game.

In addition, several Rampage players have joined the “Movember” cause and will grow mustaches throughout the month of November to raise funds and awareness for cancers that affect men. The month-long initiative will culminate with the team’s “Movember Night” on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. when the Rampage take on the Oklahoma City Barons at the AT&T Center.

The team’s “Movember Night” will also feature the first-ever Beard & Mustache Competition. For more information on how to register for the competition, click here.

Updates on the team’s Movember progress will be posted on SARampage.com and through the team’s social media channels. Several members of the Spurs Sports & Entertainment staff will support the team by growing mustaches throughout the month as well.

Fans are encouraged to join the cause by submitting photos of their own mustaches on the team’s Facebook page or by tagging @sarampage on Twitter and Instagram. Fans can also donate to the cause by logging on to the team’s “Movember” profile here.

The Rampage will host their fourth-annual “Pink in the Rink” game on Friday, Jan.  31 against the Toronto Marlies at the AT&T Center. In three years, the Rampage have raised $116,000 to help in the fight against breast cancer. The last two “Pink in the Rink” games have also featured sellout crowds with a combined 32,356 fans watching the Rampage skate on pink ice in honor of breast health awareness.

Tickets to Rampage home games start at $10 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
