Rampage Fall to OKC, 2-1, to Split Weekend

By: San Antonio Rampage Media Relations

Box Score | Game Notes

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 19, 2013) – The San Antonio Rampage (17-21-0-4) surrendered the game-winning goal late in the third period and fell, 2-1, to Oklahoma City (18-16-2-3) en route to a weekend split at Cox Convention Center.

Andre Deveaux scored his first goal since Nov. 16th and rookie John McFarland earned his first point in his second game since his call up from Cincinnati on Wednesday.

Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom was again solid in net, making 34 saves off 36 shots in the defeat. Markstrom stopped 80-of-84 shots on the weekend and has surrendered two or fewer goals in six of his last seven games.

Barons forward Dane Byers opened the scoring and gave Oklahoma City the first goal of the game for the second straight night at 12:52 of the opening frame. Tyler Pitlick took advantage of a San Antonio turnover and got the puck over to the former member of the Rampage to make it 1-0.

The Rampage kept up the offensive pressure and outshot the Barons, 10-9, in the first period – a night after being outshot 19-2 after the first 20 minutes.

The Rampage found the game-tying goal late in the second period, as Deveaux made it a 1-1 game when he took advantage of a great individual effort by McFarland.

McFarland charged into the Barons’ zone on the left wing side and peeled off the wall and powered his way to the net, with Deveaux crashing the crease, as well.  Deveaux found the puck and was able to lift it past Barons’ goaltender Oliver Roy to tie the game at 16:02.

The goal was Deavuex’s first since Nov. 16th, while McFarland’s assist was is first since November 13th.  It was also his McFarland’s first point since returning from the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones.

The Barons fought back in the third period, outshooting San Antonio, 16-8. Despite the shot discrepancy, Markstrom kept the Barons at bay until Ryan Martindale tallied the game winner with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Martindale fired a shot from the point that snuck past a screened Markstrom at 18:51. For his efforts on the night, Markstrom was awarded the Third Star of the Game.

Oklahoma City won the shot battle, 36-25, but were once again blanked on the power play, going 0-for-2 on the night. San Antonio also ended the night 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

San Antonio finishes the season series at Oklahoma City with a 1-4-0-1 record. The two clubs will meet twice more at AT&T Center to wrap up the season series.

The Rampage will return to the AT&T Center on Friday to face the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m. on a KZEP Dollar Drink night. The Silver and Black will play their third annual Pink in the Rink game on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Individual, and season, tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
