CEDAR PARK, Texas (March 19, 2013) – The San Antonio Rampage (27-27-1-6) were unable to hold a two-goal lead in the third period and ultimately fell to the Texas Stars (36-16-5-6), 4-3, on Tuesday night at in the last game of the season between the in-state rivals at Cedar Park Center.

The defeat snapped a three-game streak where the Rampage had earned at least one point. San Antonio is now 2-7-0-0 in nine games against the Stars this season.

Jed Ortmeyer tallied two assists for the Rampage, while netminder Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 33-of-37 shots on the night in his 10th straight start for the Rampage.

San Antonio’s power play remained hot in the defeat, cashing in for the 10th time in their last 13 games, going 14-for-58 in that span.

John McFarland lit the lamp for the second-straight game just 2:45 into the first period. Ortmeyer set up McFarland perfectly on a 2-on-1 rush and McFarland buried it into the net from the bottom of the right circle on San Antonio’s first shot of the game. Rampage forward Andre Deveaux also picked up an assist on the goal – his second helper in as many games.

Texas forward Matt Fraser tied the game at 1-1 at 9:59 of the first period while on the power play. Fraser has tallied eight goals against the Rampage in nine games this season.

Evan Barlow reclaimed the lead for the Rampage at 10:57 of the opening frame. Rookie forward Jared Gomes won a battle down low and found Barlow at the bottom of the left faceoff dot. Barlow dragged the puck and fired a shot shortside on Stars goaltender Richard Bachman.

With the assist, Gomes now has recorded a point in three of his last four games, tallying one goal and three assists in that span.

Greg Rallo extended San Antonio’s lead to 3-1 with a blast from the top of the left faceoff circle at 5:38 of the second period while on the power play. Rallo has now recorded 10 points (six goals, four assists) in his last seven games. San Antonio has also lit the lamp at least once on the power play in their last four-straight games against the Stars.

The Stars rattled off three-straight goals within a span of 4:57 early in the third period to take the lead for the first time in the game.

Fraser tallied his second goal of the night and his 11th point of the season against the Rampage at 1:17 of the third period to make it a one-goal game. Colton Sceviour followed suit for the Stars two minutes later to tie the game at 3-3 early in the final frame.

Justin Dowling gave the Stars the 4-3 lead at 6:14 of the third period on the power-play with a sneaky shot from a sharp angle that snuck behind Grumet-Morris.

The Rampage were unable to mount a final push due to two penalties in the final five minutes of action. After tallying 15 shots in the first period, San Antonio was only able to muster 11 combined shots in the final two periods.

The Stars won the shots battle on the night, 37-26, and finished the game 2-for-7 on the power play, while San Antonio was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
