Rampage Earn Come-From-Behind Win

By: San Antonio Rampage Media Relations

Box Score | Game Notes

SAN ANTONIO (November 2, 2013) – Rampage forward Garrett Wilson tallied two goals and the Rampage came from behind on three separate occasions en route to a 5-3 victory over the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night at AT&T Center in front of 6,359 fans.

Five Rampage players recorded multi-point nights in the victory, with Wilson leading the way with a pair of goals. Greg Rallo and Quinton Howden both had a goal and an assist on the night and Vincent Trocheck and Colby Robak picked up a pair of helpers in the win.

Trocheck now has seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last three games and leads the Rampage with 11 points (six goals, five assists). Wilson also has been on a tear of late, tallying six points (two goals, four assists) in his last three games.

Rampage netminder Michael Houser collected his third-straight win to improve to a perfect 3-0-0 by turning aside 24-of-27 shots in the game.

San Antonio continued their barrage of opposing netminders, firing 43 shots on former No. 1 overall draft pick, Rick DiPietro. The Rampage are currently second in the league with an average of 35.66 shots on goal per game.

The Silver and Black surrendered the first goal of the night at 2:08, as Justin Shugg was left open on the right wing and fired a wrist shot past Houser. However, for the first time this season, the Rampage earned a victory after surrendering the opening goal (1-4-0-0).

Wilson evened the score at 1-1 with a deflection at 4:19 of the first period. Defenseman Jonathan Racine took the initial shot from the point and received an assist on the goal, along with Trocheck.

Charlotte reclaimed the lead at 8:08 of the first period with a goal from Victor Rask off an odd-man rush. Zach Boychuk found Rask, who was the trailer on the play and the Checkers forward snapped a shot past Houser. Shugg also collected his second point of the night with an assist on the play.

The Rampage cashed in on the power play to knot the score back at 2-2. Crabb fired a perfectly placed one-timer off the left post and into the back of the net for his second goal in as many games. Rallo and Robak earned helpers on the goal.

The two teams went into the first intermission tied 2-2, despite only tallying a combined 17 shots on goal. The pair of goals scored by the Rampage in the opening frame marked the first time this season San Antonio has struck twice in the first period.

The Checkers took a 3-2 lead at 13:53 of the second period off a bang-bang passing play. Adam Brace entered the zone and played a perfect pass to Matt Marquardt who streaked to the net and tipped it past Houser for his first of the season.

However, the Rampage netminder made an unbelievable save with 28 seconds remaining in the second period to keep it a one-goal game. Houser turned aside a shot from the point, but the rebound went right to Shugg at the top of the crease. Houser looked to be down and out on the play, but flashed the leather and was able to make the sprawling save.

Houser’s save proved to be big early in the third period, as Rallo lit the lamp at 3:19 off a great feed from Howden to notch the game for the third time.

Wilson then pushed the Rampage over the hump with his second of the game at 10:53 from the high slot off a perfect pass from Trocheck.

Howden recorded the first shorthanded goal of the season for the Rampage at 13:18 of the third period. The Rampage winger collected a Checkers turnover at the blueline and charged in on a breakaway. Howden fired a shot that beat DiPietro low to his glove side.

The victory marked the first time this year that the Rampage have gone on to a win when trailing entering the third period (1-5-0-0).

San Antonio finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play, marking the second straight game the Silver and Black cashed in with the man advantage. Charlotte was 0-for-4 on the power play on the night.

The Rampage hit the road for their first of two trips to Abbotsford this season. The Silver and Black will play a pair of games in British Columbia on Tuesday and Wednesday. Puck drop for both games is set for 9:00 p.m. CT.

The Rampage return to the Alamo City on Saturday night for the club’s fifth annual Face-Off Against Kids Cancer Night on Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Barons. The game also marks a $1 Hot Dog and $1 Popcorn Night, presented by MAGIC 105.3.

Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554, or online at sarampage.com.
