Rampage Drop OT Decision to Toronto 4-3

By: San Antonio Rampage Media Relations

Box Score | Game Notes

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 31, 2014) – The San Antonio Rampage (17-21-3-4) held a two-goal lead twice, but ultimately fell 4-3 in overtime to the Toronto Marlies (26-14-2-2) in front of a season-high crowd of 15,251 tonight on the fourth annual Pink in the Rink night at the AT&T Center.

The attendance of 15,251 at the AT&T Center was the third largest in franchise history.

Bobby Butler opened the scoring under two minutes into the contest, and would score again in the first to give the Rampage a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. While his first was unassisted, Logan Shaw collected the solo helper on his second tally. Captain Greg Rallo netted his ninth of the year to make it 3-1 in the third, with assists from Eric Selleck and Ryan Martindale.

Jacob Markstrom made 22-of-26 saves in the loss. The Rampage outshot the Marlies 29-26. The contest was forward Jed Ortmeyer’s 300th career AHL game.

Butler got it started off for the Rampage, breaking into the zone and snapping a quick shot past Marlies net-minder Garret Sparks 1:39 into the contest to make it 1-0.

Though they were given four power-play opportunities, the Marlies were unable to convert on any of them, and Butler struck again at 15:15 shorthanded to give the Rampage a two-goal lead.

A goal from Brandon Kozun at the 2:08 mark of the second on the power play would be the only tally of the period. A slew of penalties from both teams ensued, but Kozun’s early strike was the only scoring to come from the extra man.

Rallo gave the Rampage a two-goal lead once again at the 4:38 mark of the third for his ninth of the year, but the Marlies would come right back to cut the lead to one for the second time.

Tyler Biggs’ shot just barely squeaked by Markstrom at 6:35 of the third, making it 3-2 in favor of the Rampage.

Jerry D’Amigo netted the equalizer with 54.5 seconds left in regulation, and his goal sent the game into overtime. Granted a power play just 16 seconds into the bonus period, the Marlies were quick to cash in with Kozun scoring his second of the night just eight seconds into the power play to win it 4-3 for the Marlies.

The Rampage went 0-for-7 on the power play, giving up two goals against as the Marlies went 2-for-9.

The Rampage are in action again against Toronto on Feb. 5 for their first game of this year’s Rodeo Road Trip. They will travel to six different cities, three different states, and two different countries throughout the month of February, returning to the AT&T Center on March 1 for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Texas Stars. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554, or online at sarampage.com.
