ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia (December 5, 2012) – Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped all 36 shots he faced as San Antonio (8-11-0-3) shut out the Western Conference- leading Abbotsford Heat (13-4-3-3), 4-0, Wednesday night in British Columbia. The victory concluded a five-game road trip for the Rampage, who went 4-1-0-0 against North Division opponents on the trip.

The shutout was Markstrom’s first of the season, and third of his career, as he stopped 68 of 70 shots in the Rampage’s two-game sweep of the Heat. San Antonio has now won five of their last six games in Abbotsford.

Rampage rookie Quinton Howden also had his first professional multi-goal game, as he tallied a goal in the second period and the club’s first empty-net goal of the year with 1:49 remaining in regulation. Fellow rookie Justin Vaive also had a memorable night, tallying his first American Hockey League goal.

Scott Timmins opened the scoring at 4:29 of the first period when he gathered a loose puck and threw it on net. The shot beat Heat goaltender Leland Irving to give the Rampage the early lead. The goal was Timmins’ second of the road trip and third of the season.

Vaive checked in with his first AHL goal at 7:06 of the first period. The Rampage rookie fired a shot from the left circle that beat Taylor stick side, with Timmins collecting an assist.

Howden ended Irving’s night at 5:30 of the second period when he rushed in on the right wing side and fired a low shot that beat the Heat netminder between the pads to make it 3-0 San Antonio. Danny Taylor came on in relief of Irving, who had allowed three goals off eight shots.

Howden would add an empty-net goal at 18:11 of the third period to ice the game for the Rampage and send the team back to San Antonio on a high note.

The Rampage were outshot, 36-14, in the game – and 70-31 in the two-game series – but Markstrom was the difference in net in both games, making several incredible stops including a point blank save off Heat winger Greg Nemisz in the third period.

In his last six starts, Markstrom has surrendered a total of 10 goals, while stopping 188 shots. In that span, he hasn't surrendered more than two goals in a single game. Markstrom brings a personal four-game winning streak back to the Alamo City.

The Rampage ended the night 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Heat finished 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

The Rampage will return to the Alamo City on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for Salute to the Badges Night to kick off a two-game set with the Oklahoma City Barons. Individual, and season, tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
