San Antonio Rampage General Manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed forwards Justin Vaive and Josh Birkholz to one-year AHL contracts. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.
Vaive, 23, skated in 10 games with the Rampage in 2011-12 and collected 10 penalty minutes. The Buffalo, N.Y. native and second-year professional also tallied six goals and 18 points in 40 games with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. Vaive was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in Round Four (#92 overall) at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Birkholz, 21, potted a team-leading 29 goals and 57 points in 70 games last season with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Maple Grove, Minn. native recorded 47 goals, 39 assists, and 86 points in 138 career games with the Silvertips, and also totaled five goals and six points in 36 games career games at the University of Minnesota (NCAA). Birkholz was selected by the Florida Panthers in Round Three (#67 overall) at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
