SAN ANTONIO (January 31, 2013) – San Antonio Rampage general manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed forward Jed Ortmeyer to an AHL contract. In addition, the club also has signed forward Doug Jones to a professional tryout contract from the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators.
Ortmeyer, 34, has logged 345 NHL games between four teams in his nine year professional career, tallying 22 goals and 31 assists. The winger donned the Silver and Black for 20 games during the 2010-11 campaign and recorded three points (two goals, one assist) with the Rampage. Last year, Ortmeyer split time between the Minnesota Wild and the Houston Aeros. For the Wild, Ortmeyer played in 35 games and recorded a goal and an assist. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound winger tallied eight goals and 10 assists in 34 games for the Aeros last year. Ortmeyer played two games with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League before signing with the Rampage.
Jones, 25, is in his first full season with Gwinnett and has recorded 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists) in 47 games. The 6-foot, 205-pound forward played in five games for the Gladiators last season, tallying three goals and one assist. He joined Gwinnett after wrapping up his senior year at Dartmouth College, where he played in 127 games in four years and totaled 29 goals and 78 assists. Jones also played for the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for two seasons (2006-08) and recorded 28 goals and 60 assists in 118 games.
The Rampage will play their third-annual Pink in the Rink game tomorrow (Friday) against the Rockford Ice Hogs at 7:30 p.m. on a KZEP Dollar Drink Night. The Rampage will skate on pink ice and auction off pink-themed jerseys after the game with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the breast health awareness efforts.
