Box Score | Game Notes

CHICAGO (February 17, 2013) – The San Antonio Rampage (23-23-1-4) erased a two-goal deficit and won their second shootout in as many nights as they came from behind and defeated the Chicago Wolves (24-16-4-3), 5-4, on Sunday at AllState Arena.

The win brings San Antonio back to .500 on the season for the first time since November 4th and improves the Rampage to 4-1-1-0 on the Rodeo Road Trip. San Antonio has earned points in five of their six games on the road trip thus far.

Jon Rheault tallied a goal, an assist, and the shootout winner on his way to First Star honors, while goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves off 32 shots and stopped all four shooters he faced in the shootout.
Chicago opened the scoring at 11:12 of the first period on the power play when Stefan Schneider put a rebound in off a shot from Michael Davies.

The Wolves looked as if they were going to escape the first period with the lead until Rheault scored with 35 seconds remaining in the frame. Rheault was set up in front of the net and was able to beat Wolves goaltender Matt Climie.

The second period proved to be an offensive explosion, as both teams combined for five goals in the frame.

Brendon Nash kicked off the scoring at 4:36 of the second period on the power play when he fired a hard shot from the point that beat Climie clean to make it 2-1. The goal was Nash’s third as a member of the Rampage and marked the third straight game San Antonio has scored on the power play. Brian O’Hanley’s assist was also his third straight, all coming on the power play.

However, the Wolves went on to rattle off three-straight goals in the middle frame. Nathan Longpre tied the game at 2-2 when he fired a shot that trickled past Markstrom to tie the game. Then, only 32 seconds later, Devin DiDiomete gave Chicago the lead with his first goal of the season.

Michael Davies gave Chicago a two-goal lead at 9:58 of the second period on the power play when he caught Markstrom off guard and tucked the puck into the back of the net.

Scott Timmins made it a one-goal game at 17:01 of the second period when he banged home the rebound off Rheault’s initial shot to make it a 4-3 game heading into the second intermission.

Entering the game, when trailing after 40 minutes of action, the Rampage owned a 1-19-0-0 record while Chicago was 21-3-0-0 when leading after two periods.

Rampage rookie Jared Gomes tied the game for San Antonio at 3:24 of the third period when he took advantage of a Chicago turnover that left him with a clear shot on Climie. It was Gomes’ ninth goal of the season and second in as many nights.

After a scoreless overtime session, the Rampage went to their second straight shootout. Zach Hamill and Rheault converted while Markstrom shutout all for Wolves shooters to give the Rampage their second shootout win in as many nights after dropping their first four shootouts earlier in the season.

San Antonio outshot Chicago, 39-32, on the afternoon, marking the most shots the Rampage have recorded since Jan. 11 at Lake Erie when they fired 42 shots on goal.

The Rampage power play remained hot, scoring in their third straight game and finished the game 1-for-3. Chicago went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Silver & Black will start the final leg of the Rodeo Road Trip with a return to Peoria on Friday, Feb. 22. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. from Carver Arena.
The Silver and Black will return to AT&T Center on Saturday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. to host their annual Military Appreciation Night. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com
