Rampage drop 2-1 decision to Texas Stars in preseason game

San Antonio Rampage center Colin Long scored the lone goal for the Rampage in a 2-1 loss to the Texas Stars in their first preseason matchup on Thursday night at Northwoods Ice Center, the Rampage's official practice facility. The Rampage will travel to Houston on Friday to take on the Aeros at 7 p.m. at Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center.

The Stars got off to an early start scoring a little over a minute into the game. Nino Musitelli fired a shot from the left wing circle that cleared over the shoulder of Rampage goaltender Al Montoya and into the net to put the Stars up 1-0. Texas forwards Geoff Irwin and Tomas Sinisalo were accredited with the assists.

The second period opened with the Stars capturing a 2-0 lead off a power-play goal by Kael Mouillierat. Mouillierat scored with a shot from the top left corner of the crease that crossed in front of Montoya and landed in the top right corner of the net. Musitelli picked up his second point with the lone assist.

Shortly after Mouilierat's goal, Texas Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan pulled goalie Michael Teslak in favor of Adrien LeMay. Rampage head coach Ray Edwards followed replacing Montoya with Joe Fallon in net.

The level of physical play escalated at both ends during the second period. Texas Center Matt Tassone instigated a fight where 31 minutes of penalties ensued. Rampage right winger Eric Neilson received the brunt of penalties with two fighting and a roughing violation totaling 12 minutes.

Life was breathed back into the Rampage during the third period as Jeff May and Ned Lukacevic set up Colin Long in front of the net to put them on the scoreboard and cut the deficit in half. Despite several great opportunities following this, the Rampage were unable to score again and they walked away with their first preseason loss.

The Rampage were outshot 33-27 and served 22 minutes in penalties over the Stars 13 minutes.
