San Antonio Rampage center Jon Matsumoto scored the Rampage’s lone goal in their 3-1 defeat to the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center on Sunday evening.
Center Kyle Wilson put the Admirals on the scoreboard first with a goal 2:08 into the second period. He retrieved the rebound of a Scott Valentine shot and fired the puck past Rampage backstop Dov Grumet-Morris to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Jonathon Blum also assisted on Wilson’s 15th marker of the season.
San Antonio evened the game at 1-1 when Matsumoto potted a five-on-three power-play goal at the 17:32 mark of the middle frame. He took a pass from right wing Bill Thomas in the slot and one-timed a slap shot by Milwaukee goaltender Jeremy Smith for his 18th goal of the year. Forward Greg Rallo notched his 13th point in his last 14 games with the secondary assist on the play.
The Admirals regained the lead 8:43 into the third period when Wilson intercepted a pass in the San Antonio zone and sent a shot on goal that was deflected into the net by right wing Ryan Flynn. Right wing Ryan Thang received the secondary helper on Flynn’s fourth marker of the 2011-12 campaign.
With 41 seconds remaining in the third, Milwaukee center Chris Mueller added an empty-net goal to make the count 3-1 in favor of the Admirals. Blum and defenseman Scott Ford were credited with the assists on Mueller’s 24th goal of the season.
Smith made 31 stops on 32 Rampage shots for his 22nd win of the year while Grumet-Morris turned aside 25 of the 27 Milwaukee attempts he faced in the San Antonio loss.
The Rampage (30-23-2-1) conclude their Rodeo road trip with a stop in Chicago to play the Wolves at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Allstate Arena.
