San Antonio Rampage General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed veteran defenseman Anders Eriksson to a Professional Tryout contract (PTO).
Eriksson, 34, has appeared in 552 career National Hockey League (NHL) games with Detroit, Chicago, Florida, Toronto, Columbus and Calgary, recording 171 points (22 goals, 149 assists) and maintaining a plus-41 rating over the course of 13 seasons in his NHL career. He was a member of the 1998 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings.
A native of Bollnas, Sweden, Eriksson has appeared in 301 AHL games posting 24 goals and 157 assists and a plus-33 rating with Adirondack, St. John's, Syracuse, Springfield and Quad City over the course of seven seasons. During the 2008-09 season, Eriksson recorded his AHL career-best 49 points (4 goals, 45 assists) in 64 games with Quad City.
The 6-foot-3, 224-pound blueliner played on the bronze medal-winning Swedish team at the 1999 World Championships. He earned the Swedish Elite League's (SEL) Rookie of the Year during the 1994-95 season and represented Sweden at the 1995 World Junior Championships in which he was named a First Team All-Star in the tournament. Eriksson also helped Sweden win the silver medal at the 1994 World Junior Championships.
Eriksson was Detroit's first pick (22nd overall) in the first round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
